Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan Makes Tampa the TV Home of NWA Wrestling

It’s been nearly four decades since television studio professional wrestling was a regular part of Tampa, but that’s about to change thanks to Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins.

Billy Corgan owns the National Wrestling Alliance and he's bringing it back to the bay! The NWA first filmed episodes of the “NWA Powerrr” television series in a WEDU-PBS studio in February 2023. They shot there again this January, then in April, and next month, they return once again, making it official: Tampa’s PBS affiliate’s studio is the new home of “NWA Powerrr.”

On Oct. 5 and 6, the NWA will shoot around six hours of footage that will be broken into 12 episodes for the series that streams on the CW Network.

Once that wraps, the NWA will hit the road for shows, including a Halloween-themed event Oct. 26 at Robarts Arena in Sarasota.

The NWA will return to WEDU sometime next year to film another season. If you'd like to be part of the upcoming tapings, visit nationalwrestlingalliance.com for ticket information. The National Wrestling Alliance will film episodes of its “NWA Powerrr” television series from 7:30-10:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 and 6 at WEDU-PBS, 1300 N. Blvd., Tampa.
