It was an all-star event over the weekend at a pizza joint. Foo Fighters Dave Grohl joined forces with Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith to play along with rock cover band Chevy Metal.
Chevy Metal, co-founded by the late Taylor Hawkins, welcomed the trio at the Rock N Roll Pizza Bar in Simi Valley, CA, also joined by the teenaged son of late Foo drummer Taylor Hawkins, Shane Hawkins.
Grohl took the reins at the start of the evening, leading the band in covers of The Police, Thin Lizzy, The Rolling Stones and even a “mini-Van Halen set.” Jane's Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins sat in for Van Halen's Ain't Taking 'Bout Love, Queen's Tie Your Mother Down, and David Bowie's Moonage Daydream, Shane jumped in on drums for Van Halen songs, as well Led Zeppelin’s “Moby Dick,” and Chili Peppers' Chad Smith guested on a raucous set-closing cover of AC/DC's Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.
