Astronomers have discovered a large object moving from the outer reaches of the solar system that’s approaching Earth. It’s a comet—known as 2014 UN271—and scientists say it’s the size of a small dwarf planet, or an estimated 81 to 230 miles in diameter.
Its discovery was only announced last week, and scientists expect it will approach as close as Saturn’s orbit in the next decade. It’s currently orbiting near Neptune, but will be “impossible” to see without a telescope.
