Tampa Bay Residents without Paychecks as Payroll Company Closes Overnight

Last week, a payroll company abruptly shut down, leaving thousands of people without a paycheck in a nationwide fiasco. Thousands of people had direct deposits reversed not once, but twice. The blunder caused many employees to see negative balances in their bank accounts, including residents of the Tampa Bay area.

"Even the banks weren't prepared for what they got hit with” said one Lakeland resident.

The processing company, MyPayrollHR, is now facing calls for an investigation by New York governor Andrew Cuomo and other officials after abruptly shutting down.

A variety of professional fields were hit, ranging from medical companies to gyms, and even cleaning companies.

“For our side of it, we've all gotten reimbursed for it,” said one affected employee about her employer.

However, not all employees are having that same luck recouping their money.

But if you were affected and haven't received a paycheck, you should talk to your employer immediately.

The employer will look to the payroll company, and may even make tap state and/or federal authorities to assist in recovering the lost funds.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody’s office says it has received one complaint about the payroll situation as of Tuesday. The FBI and U.S. Attorney General in New York are reportedly investigating MyPayrollHR and working to track down its owner.
