The recall involves Nissan Rogues produced from 2014 to 2020 as well as Nissan Rouge Sports produced from 2017 to 2020, according to an NHTSA announcement.
Basically there is an issue with the Jackknife key. Some do not reliably stay in an "extended" position. If they do not, the NHTSA says the key is able to fold downward while driving, allowing an inadvertent touch to potentially turn off the ignition while on the road. This would kill all power to the vehicle including your steering and possibly the air bags too.
There is currently no fix for the issue yet. Nissan says they will be notifying owners by mail.
That being said, the company has urged customers to contact their local dealership if their key does not remain open.
