An Alabama sheriff has been accused of lying about contracting the coronavirus to delay going to trial on felony theft charges.
Attorneys for Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely on Friday filed to postpone their client's upcoming trial, claiming he'd been hospitalized to be treated for the virus, court records indicate. However, prosecutors brought in a doctor from the hospital, who testified that while Blakely had been tested for the flu, walking pneumonia and other illnesses, the results came back negative for each one. The judge admonished Blakely's defense team, telling them he "won't tolerate" such tactics.
As of Tuesday, no coronavirus cases had been confirmed in Alabama.
Shouldn't lying to the court warrant an additional charge? There's a cold place in Hell for this SOB.
