The Boston Red Sox (84-70) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (93-60) 4-2 on Friday night at Tropicana Field. With the loss, the Rays saw their winning streak snapped at six straight games.
Roman Anthony hit a solo homer in the first inning to give the Red Sox an early 1-0 lead. The Rays got on the scoreboard in bottom of the first inning when Junior Caminero hit an RBI groundout to make it 1-1 - for Junior, it was his 97th run batted in of the season.
The Red Sox answered with a two-run single from Anthony in the second to take a 3-1 lead. Anthony would finish the game 2-for-5 with three runs driven in and a run scored. Jahmai Jones hit a solo homer in the third inning to make it 4-1.
Tampa Bay got one back in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull within 4-2, which would prove to be the final score. Ian Seymour (9-7, 4.38) took the loss allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking two. Ranger Suarez (8-4, 3.27) got the win for Boston after allowing one earned run on three hits in five and two-third innings of work in which he struck out five while walking five.
The Rays will look to bounce back when they meet in the middle game of the three-game series on Saturday afternoon.
