Rays Drop Opener To Royals

The Kansas City Royals (33-46) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (43-32) 2-1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field to win the opener of a four-game series in a pitcher's duel.

Former Ray Michael Wacha (5-5, 3.48) was masterful for Kansas City, pitching seven innings in which he allowed one earned run on six hits while striking out five and walking one. He out-dueled Rays starter Drew Rasmussen (6-4, 2.62), who allowed only two earned runs on four hits in his six innings of work in which he struck out five and walked two.

The Rays will look to bounce back in the second game of the series against the Royals on Tuesday night. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 6:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
