Drivers are seeing a big spike in gas prices with the national average now at $4.59 a gallon days before the Memorial Day holiday.
This after the President failed to broker an agreement with China to urge Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz.
The Head of Petroleum Analysis for GasBuddy, Patrick De Haan, says every day the strait is closed 18-million barrels of oil are blocked from the global market.
But De Haan adds there's a slight glimmer of hope for Florida as gas prices are back below the national average at $4.43 a gallon.
De Haan predicts prices could trickle down a few cents heading in the Memorial Day weekend, but he expects 5-dollar a gallon gas by July 4th or even record highs if the strait stays closed.
He says some states, like Georgia have fuel prices below $4 a gallon while others are already above 5 bucks.
