Is closing Bayshore Blvd to cars a good idea?

This has worked in other cities with similar iconic thoroughfares.  Opening stretches of road riddled with heavy traffic during the week to foot traffic allowing residents of the community to enjoy the green spaces and scenic backdrop.  The question is how would it work here in Tampa?  What are your thoughts?  I'd love to here from you on this.  Heres the link to the story from Tampabay.com
