Man Arrested Selling A COVID-19 Cure On The Interwebs

Prosecutors say Marek Maitan, 35, repackaged pesticides with his own handmade labels and then sold them on the Internet, claiming the product "Kills 99 percent of Bacterias and Viruses" and "Kills COVID-19 and Seasonal Flu." He sold the products with a false EPA registration number printed on the labels, according to the EPA's Criminal Investigation Commission. According to Maitan's criminal complaint, he "gave customers a false sense of security that his products were providing protection from the virus that causes COVID-19."

Investigators found 17 gallons of pesticide in Maitan's home, according to police. Maitan says he purchased 40 gallons before beginning to sell it, his complaint indicates. He's due in court on September 11th.
