Building The Perfect (Cheap) Beast

Got a favorite car? Ferrari? Lamborghini? Classic Mustang or Camaro? I get it! I'm a gear head who falls in love easily with sexy lines and high horsepower.

Which brings me to my latest project.

A few weeks ago, I saw an episode of Gas Monkey Garage which featured lead Monkey Aaron Kaufmann building a BMW race car with an LS-type engine and a clutch.

I fell in love, my brother.

Let's get one thing straight right now, I've never been a Bimmer guy. I owned a couple of them back in the 1980s, but I bought and sold them to make a buck and nothing much more.

But back to my story.

I recently found an engine on Craigslist from a wrecked 2007 Chevy Silverado. I scooped a 6-speed a couple of months before that. Now, I have acquired the car it will all be crammed into.

It's a 1999 BMW 540i and the engine is smoked. That makes it cheap with a motivated seller. SWEET!

I'll keep you guys updated as the project progresses, but the plan is for a turbocharged 800 horsepower... and a sleeper from hell will be born.
