Back in the day, speed freaks used to take pride in being a member of the Ton Club, meaning they had gone 100 mph on a motorcycle or in a car.
I soooo get it. I was about 8 years old when I joined that club. A few years later, I joined the Two Ton Club.
I've only known one man personally who went over 300 mph....on a motorcycle.
Going 200 mph is not as easy as you would think. It takes horsepower, aerodynamics and distance. Think of it as jogging along at a leisurely pace. Now, imagine breaking into a run. Now, imagine being required to run even faster. See what I mean? So much of your power is being used just to maintain your current speed that an increase in velocity is extraordinarily difficult.
Your vehicle encounters the same problems. The faster it goes, the more power and fuel it takes to push through the air.
I'm sure many people think of racing as a knuckle dragger's game, but it's really more than that. Some of the sharpest minds I've ever known belong to people who race or engineer racing vehicles.
Here's my challenge to you; show up at a drag strip and raise a little hell. You can even take the family beater. You'll have a blast and perhaps even awaken a speed freak. Cheers!
