If you enjoy golf, there's a charity event coming up later this month that you may want to know about. It's the Clinics Can Help Golf Classic in West Palm Beach.
The non-profit's CEO Owen O'Neill is a former registered nurse whose organization collects used medical equipment so that it can be distributed to those who need it most.
"Medical equipment is a tipping point in medical care. When you have access to the correct medical equipment such as a hospital bed or an oxygen concentrator or a wheel chair, your chances of recovery are far greater than they were before."
Clinics Can Help provides those items for families that can't afford them.
The event is chaired by CBS 12 News Anchor Matt Lincoln, who says he was inspired by reporting on the son of PGA Tour Champion Dana Quigley who benefitted from the organization after an accident left him disabled.
Matt says he's always looking at ways to be a bigger part of the community.
"You know as much as I'm an anchor for CBS 12 News I'm also a Palm Beach County resident. I want to be more, certainly, than just the guy who talks on TV."
The event raises money for Clinic Can Help's KINDER Project, which provides access to specialized medical equipment.
"These are kids that suffer ailments where they could really benefit from having wheelchairs that do multiple things but insurance is only paying for one of them."
The 9th annual Golf Classic is being held at Banyan Cay Resort and Golf Club on October 20 and they still have room for single golfers and foursomes.
Lincoln says there are also opportunities for businesses to donate items for the silent auction. For more information on that, contact Jay Zeager at 561-640-2995 or email jay@clinicscanhelp.org.
In addition to the tournament and silent auction, there will be contests for Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, Hole in One and Putting.
