Costs for Florida Prepaid college plans are coming down.

Florida's public universities have kept a lid on tuition increases and that's lowering the cost for customers of the prepaid college program.

"Nearly half of the affected families have refunds available right now totaling more than $500 million," Governor Ron DeSantis said. "The remaining plans will have lower monthly payment amounts and may be payed off earlier than anticipated due to this price reduction."

New enrollment costs are being reduced to as low as $44 a month for infants for some plans.

Governor DeSantis says Florida's public universities provide a great "bang for the buck" for students, without saddling them with huge debt.

Florida's prepaid college program is the largest of its kind in the country, with nearly two-million customers and assets of $14 billion.
