Man Found on Sunshine Skyway Faces 8 Child Sex Charges

PINELLAS PARK -- A man who perched himself on the edge of the Sunshine Skyway Wednesday is facing eight counts of sexual battery against children.

Pinellas Park police say 53-year-old James C. Humphreys molested two boys, 10 and 12 years old, who lived in his neighborhood near 61st Way North.

Detectives say Humphreys brought the victims to his home several times between September and December of 2018, where the sex acts occurred. They say Humphreys was buying gifts and lunch for the victims, hoping to continue molesting them.

When investigators showed up Wednesday morning at Humphreys' home to question him, they say he took off... leading to a wrong-way drive through traffic at 49th Street and Park Boulevard.

Around noon, his car showed up parked at the top of the Skyway. A Pinellas Park crisis negotiator helped talk Humphreys off the edge and into a patrol car.

Police believe there may be additional victims and they're asking anyone with information about Humphreys to come forward.
