Scientists are considering an unconventional approach to address global warming: deploying umbrellas in space to block the sun's rays.
Led by Yoram Rozen, a physics professor at the Asher Space Research Institute and director of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, the team plans to build a prototype for a sunshade that would cover an area roughly the size of Argentina.
According to Futurism, due to the immense size, a swarm of smaller shades would be launched into space to collaborate. The concept, present for decades, involves blocking a small percentage of the sun's radiation to counteract global warming. Critics argue the idea is costly and unrealistic, but proponents stress the importance of exploring diverse solutions to climate change.
Rozen's team is seeking $10 million to $20 million to create their prototype, aiming to demonstrate the feasibility of the concept.
