A Colorado artist used AI to win a state fair art competition.
The piece, titled Théåtre D’opéra Spatial, was generated using Midjourney, an AI engine. Jason Allen submitted the piece to the Digital Arts/Digitally-Manipulated portion of the Colorado State Fair Fine Arts competition.
While the artist has been taking some heat of the use of his Midjourney AI to create the winning piece, he claims he spent many weeks fine-tuning the AI and created hundreds of images. He then printed his favorites on canvas.
It appears Allen did not break any rules by entering this piece into the competition.
