A new proposal from Gov. Ron DeSantis would raise Florida teacher’s minimum salary to $47,500.
The Governor announced his proposal and reasoning at his alma mater, Dunedin High School.
“We want to make sure that we are doing all we can to recruit and retain great teachers throughout the State of Florida,” he said.
Starting salaries for Sunshine State teachers currently rank as the 24th lowest educator salaries in the nation.
A starting salary of $47,500 would make Florida teachers the second highest paid in the country, trailing only New Jersey.
About 22,000 teachers in the Bay Area would benefit from the pay raise.
