Hurricane Michael Expected To Hit FL Panhandle This Week

Florida Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency for 26 counties as a tropical storm has turned into a category 2 Hurricane now named Michael.

Michael has winds up to 50 mph but has produced gusts of about 60 mph.

It is expected to hit the Florida panhandle as early as midweek.

Scott says, "This storm will be life-threatening and extremely dangerous,". He warned that the storm could affect areas of Florida not in the storm's direct path.

Forecasters advised residents along the northeastern and central U.S. Gulf Coast to monitor the storm's progress.
