53 years ago - In 1965, Nat King Cole died from lung cancer in Santa Monica, California.  He was only 45.  His death spun his daughter Natalie Cole out of control and into a life of heroin and prostitution. 

49 years ago - In 1969, Sly & The Family Stone's "Everyday People" hit #1 on the pop chart. 

43 years ago - In 1975, HISTORY was made . . . when Gino Vannelli became The First White Artist to Perform on"Soul Train"

40 years ago - In 1978, Leon Spinks defeated Muhammad Ali for the World Heavyweight Championship. 

More Leon from Wikipedia:  In 2017, Leon was inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame along with his brother, Michael.  Leon has slurred his words since his active boxing days.  In 2012, he was diagnosed with shrinkage in his brain.  Doctors said this was likely caused by punches Leon took to the face and head. 

39 years ago - In 1979, "Saturday Night Fever" won a Grammy for Album of the Year, and The Bee Gees took home awards for Best Pop Group and Best Arrangement for Voices for "Staying Alive"

38 years ago - In 1980, Penthouse Films released "Caligula" in the U.S.  It starred Malcolm McDowell as the Roman emperor who, between all the violence, manages to sleep with his sister and organize orgies. 

Helen Mirren played Caligula's fourth and final wife, Milonia Caesonia  (NSFW)

33 years ago - In 1985, "The Breakfast Club" was released . . . starring Anthony Michael Hall, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy

26 years ago - In 1992, Jeffrey Dahmer was found sane and guilty of the brutal sex-torture murders of at least 15 young men.

Dahmer was sentenced to 15 life terms, totaling 957 years in prison.  But he only served two years, because he was BEATEN TO DEATH by another inmate in 1994.

Chris Farley would have been 54 today if he hadn't OD'd on a speedball in 1997.
