19 Year Old Hockey Player Killed On Ice By Puck

Having a 17 year old hockey player for a son, this always shakes me. Zander is a defenseman who is not afraid to block pucks. He even broke his hand once stopping a puck during a championship game while we were in Toronto. I try and not think about this stuff but it's hard sometimes when you see a story like this.

A 19-year-old Russian hockey player died Tuesday, just days after he was hit in the head by a puck.

Timur Faizutdinov, a defenseman with the Dynamo St. Petersburg junior team, was struck during Friday's playoff game against Loko Yaroslavi, league officials say. He immediately collapsed and was taken to a nearby hospital, officials say. He died from complications resulting from the injury, according to doctors.

"The Kontinental Hockey League is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of JHL Dynamo St. Petersburg player Timur Fayzutdinov after he sustained a head injury during a JHL fixture on 12th March," reads a statement released by the league. "We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."
