A 19-year-old man from Virginia was taken into custody after he led police on a wild chase when they tried to arrest him for the murder of three people. Officers arrived at the home of Matthew Bernard and discovered the bodies of two women and one child who authorities say were related to him.
When Bernard saw the officers,he fled into the woods behind his home, armed with a rifle. Officials placed nearby schools on lockdown and launched a manhunt to find him. Bernard was located by officers when he tried to run back to the crime scene.
Bernard removed all of his clothing and ran past an area where the press was gathering for a police briefing about the incident. An officer was chasing after him and tried to subdue him with mace. That enraged Bernard who started choking a local pastor who happened to be standing next to his car during the chase.
Bernard released the man as the officer hit him with his nightstick. Bernard brushed off the strikes and fled back towards the woods. He was finally taken down by officers with the help of a K-9 unit.
He was taken into custody and will be charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
