46-year-old Ed Dentel had no history of heart issues. His Apple Watch gave him a rude awakening. Last Thursday, Dentel updated his watch and downloaded the electrocardiogram app. He said, "The application on the launch sounded off right away with atrial fibrillation."
Dentel thought nothing of it and went to sleep. When he woke up, Dentel put the watch back on. He said it showed "AFib. So I shut everything down and turned it back on and tried it again. Same result, same result, same result." His wife tried it on and she was normal.Dentel went to his local urgent care. He almost left because the clinic was crowded.
He checked in and mentioned his issue. A technician gave him an EKG and verified that the watch was correct.
The doctor said that Dentel was in AFib and the watch may have saved his life. He was referred to a cardiologist.
