Steve Albini, producer of Nirvana's final studio album, 1993's In Utero, is auctioning off three microphones that were used during the making of that album.
Albini describes the mics -- an Electro-Voice PL20 and two vintage Lomo 19A9s -- as "irreplaceable," adding, "They stopped being microphones and now they're artifacts. I feel like I should get them into the hands of somebody who would take care of them and not put them at risk in the hectic environment of a recording studio."
Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, the surviving members of the group, gave the blessing and encouraged him to sell the mics.
You'll be able to find them on the online music site Reverb from September 21st thru September 30th. The price will probably start around $dreaming. good luck with that.
