Prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump is representing the family of a teen who died in a dirt bike accident while being pursued by a cop.

"We're here today to announce our filing of intent to sue the Boynton Beach Police Department over the wrongful death of 13-year old Stanley Davis III."

During a virtual press conference on Thursday, Crump claimed that the police officer involved has been involved in two other high-speed pursuits resulting in the deaths of Black people.

"We believe there's a pattern and practice of Boynton Beach and particularly of this officer."

The Police Department says Davis was driving the dirt bike recklessly the day after Christmas.

He struck a median and was thrown from the bike.

Family members say they believe the teen was only being followed because he was Black.

FHP is investigating and the officer is on administrative leave. The officer's name has not been released to the public, with law enforcement citing Marsy's Law.

Crump, who has represented the families of Trayvon Martin and George Floyd, says the teen's family will be at next Tuesday's Boynton Beach City Commission meeting to push for change.
