Miami and Miami-Dade Police Team Up To Fight Spike In Gun Violence

A crackdown on gun violence coming to South Florida this summer. Local police precincts are teaming up for this 90-day initiative aimed at stopping the recent spike in deadly shootings. Miami Police Chief Art Acevedo says police will be working 27-hundred additional hours concentrating in the areas with the most gun violence like Little Haiti, Overtown and Allapatah. He says 86-percent of all crimes are committed in these areas and the suspects are mostly at -risk minors who may be working for adult gang members. Police records show in 2020 there were 272 recorded murders in Miami-Dade--that's up by 31 from 2019.
