U.S. Customs & Border Protection Inspection Of Mother's Day Flowers At MIA

U-S Customs and Border Protection specialists putting the petal to the metal at Miami International this Mother's Day. Some 90-percent of all flowers imported from South America pass through Miami International before being distributed across the country so customs specialists have been working non-stop inspecting nearly a billion cut flower stems mainly from Colombia and Ecuador. Abel Serrano, Branch Chief for Agriculture Air Cargo at Miami International, says diseases and pests would wreak havoc causing millions of dollars in damage to our agriculture, environment and economy. Anything that does not get pass inspection is fumigated before being discarded.
