Bond Hearing for Twitter Hack Suspect... Gets Hacked

TAMPA -- A bond hearing for the 17-year-old boy facing charges that he hacked several high-profile Twitter accounts ended after several hackers conducted a "Zoom-bombing" Wednesday morning.

Hillsborough circuit judge Chris Nash was hearing arguments from attorney David Weisbrod, who wants Graham Clark's bail lowered from $725,000, and from prosecutors who don't. Hackers with various fake names broke in, playing snippets of songs, and nonsensical prattle in a British accent. The judge stopped the Zoom feed when someone sent a screenshot from a porn site.

Before that happened, Weisbrod told the judge that the bail was too high because it's disproportionate to the amount he's accused of defrauding, and his client couldn't access his Bitcoin funds to pay it. Clark is accused of raking in $100,000 in Bitcoin contributions in a few hours using the hacked accounts.

Prosecutors replied that they haven't finished discovering the extent of Clark's alleged crimes and that it could be a higher value than what they've seen so far. They also pointed to his connection to another criminal investigation involving Bitcoin from last year.

The judge eventually decided to keep Clark's bond where it is. The next hearing in the case is planned for October 7th at 1:30, and the judge says it will be password-protected.
