Sarasota County Offers More Services to Keep Inmates from Coming Back

SARASOTA -- In Sarasota County, there's more help for inmates getting out of jail, to get their lives on track.

Sheriff Tom Knight says they're using a grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation to bring on two full time employees, called "re-entry navigators", to help inmates get services.

Knight says intervention in the first few days after an inmate's release is critical, to bring down the number of reoffenders.

The sheriff's efforts to help inmates get past addiction and back on the right track date back to the drug pod he established at the county jail back in 2009.
