President to attend Daytona 500

The rumors are true, President Trump will attend Sunday's Daytona 500.

The speedway put out a statement saying that they have been privileged to host several sitting presidents and are honored that President Trump has chosen to attend the 62nd running of the Great American Race.

First Lady Melania Trump will accompany the president.

Air Force One is scheduled to land in Daytona Beach about an hour before the start of the race.

President Trump is the first sitting president to attend the 500 since President George W. Bush in 2004. Bush's father- President George H.W. Bush- attended the 1992 Daytona 500 and President Ronald Reagan attended the 1984 Firecracker 400.

President Trump will spend some of the President's Day weekend at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach before heading back to Washington on Sunday.
