Jet carrying 142 people skids into St. Johns River near NAS Jacksonville

According to the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department, a commercial jet carrying 142 people slid off an airport runway at NAS Jax into the St. Johns river on Friday evening. The plane is said to have been traveling to Jacksonville from Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

This is a developing case, JSO and Mayor Lenny Curry have tweeted out a series of updates saying all passengers have been accounted for and are all alive. Mayor Curry also said that the White House reached out to assist.

Crews are currently working to contain jet fuel leaking into the river. There is no word what caused the plane to skid, but Jacksonville was experience heavy rain with low visibility during the time of the planes attempted landing.

Passengers on the plane are being taken to Memorial Hospital for medical evaluation.
