I've seen a lot of movies and movie critic is not in my job description but I do love Music. Especially Rock music. Queen's Music has been around for some of the best times of my life when you count all of the sporting events that have used "We are the Champions" and "Another one bites the Dust". After I saw this movie I realized that i've been taking their music for granted. Queen has been a part of the background music for a lot of my life.
This film is an instant classic. Although Freddy Mercury is the centerpiece of this film, his band mates are cleverly highlighted and you definitely get a feel for the brotherhood among them. Bohemian Rhapsody also chronicles the very important artistic contributions each of the band members were responsible for. The writing process for "We are the Champions" and "Another one bites the dust" in particular were very interesting and perfectly inserted into the film.
As the band rose to the top of the Rock World Freddy Mercury continued to search for who he was while being truly in love with Mary Austin. This brings a dynamic that was a very interesting for people who thought Mary was just a front to hide Freddy's sexuality.
Other things you learn about the band that you may not have known include:
The story behind the very pronounced teeth of Freddy Mercury
Freddy was a promising athlete when he was younger.
How his very unique stage antics began
The relationship with his Family
The backgrounds of Brian May, Brian Deacon, Roger Taylor
The story of the man who turned his back on Queen.
In my opinion this is the best Movie of its genre that I have ever seen. There are some very adult moments in this movie and I would say this film is for more mature audiences. If your human there is a good chance you will need to do a few double finger eye rubs in this one. Not me of course although I did get some dust in my eyes several times watching Bohemian Rhapsody.
I will see this movie again.
