Steven Adler Says Guns N' Roses 'Met the Right People at the Right Time'

Steve Adler Says 'Chinese Democracy' Should Have Been Axl Rose Solo Album

Former Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler says that despite the band's work ethic in its early days, it certainly benefitted from some good fortune.

In a recent radio interview, Adler said that when he looks back on GNR's beginning — especially its Appetite for Destruction album — he thinks of all the lucky breaks that helped make the band one of the biggest of all-time.

"The stars were definitely aligned for us," Adler said. " We met each other at the right time; we were in the right place at the right time; we met the right people at the right time."

Adler says GNR accomplished their goal, which was to make records like those of their favorite bands: Queen, KISS, Aerosmith and Iron Maiden

The drummer says that while he wishes he would have gotten to play a bigger role in the band's Not in This Lifetime reunion tour, he's "thankful" to have been part of it.

Adler has been clear about his desire to rejoin Guns N' Roses, saying the reason he only performed with the band a handful of times was due to an ill-timed back injury suffered during rehearsal.

In case he does get the call, Adler is keeping busy. He recently completed a short tour with his band Adler's Appetite which pays tribute to the rampant success of Appetite for Destruction.

"We're basically going to start off with 'Reckless Life' and end with 'Paradise City,' and everything else and then some," he told Billboard before the tour. "I love playing these songs. I wish I would have been able to play these songs with the guys I wrote them with, but it didn't work out that way."

GNR fans lobbying for Adler and founding guitarist Izzy Stradlin to rejoin the group got their hopes up earlier this spring when ads began appearing around the U.K. teasing something Appetite-related in the band's future.

As it turned out, the ads were teasing the band's massive Locked N' Loaded box set, celebrating the early days of the band.

In addition to the remastered original album, the box set includes 49 previously unreleased songs, 25 of which are from the band's original 1986 Sound City sessions for Appetite for Destruction.

The set also reportedly includes the groups early Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide EP and a 96-page book of photos from Axl Rose's personal archives.

The set is due out June 29.
