Rob Zombie and American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis are teaming up to examine the story of one of America's sickest real-life psychos -- Charles Manson.

Variety reports that they're working on a mini-series based on the cult leader's vicious 1969 murder spree -- a story that's been told on screen several times, including the acclaimed 1976 TV movie Helter Skelter.

Zombie says, “I have been obsessed with this insane story since I was a kid, so obviously I jumped at the chance to be involved in this incredible project. After speaking with Bret, I immediately realized that we shared the same vision for this epic madness."

The two are working with FOX, but there's no word yet on a possible air date.
