Imagine Dragons Honor Chris Cornell During 2017 Billboard Music Awards

Imagine Dragons honored the late, great Chris Cornell, who committed suicide last week in Detroit, during the 2017 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday (May 21).

"Although tonight is a time to celebrate the music and artist of the past year, it's also a time to recall a member of our community we lost this past week," Imagine Dragons' frontman Dan Reynolds told the crowd. "Soundgarden and Audioslave's Chris Cornell was a true innovator, a musical architecture and a pioneer on the cunning edge of the Seattle grunge movement. He was a prolific songwriter, a legendary performer and a singer, who had a voice for the ages, and a Philanthropist, whose Chris & Vicky foundation helped so many children around the world."

Reynolds went on to send his respect and ask the crowd for a moment of silence, which strategically transitioned into commercial break. Earlier in the night, Dan and the band performed "Believer." For their showing of the crossover hit, Dan paced from side to side in front of a steamy red stage set, but it wasn't long before the production illuminated with an explosion of lights. Imagine Dragons were nominated for "Sucker for Pain," their mega-collaboration alongside Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, and Logic, but lost the Top Rock Song title to Twenty One Pilots, "Heathens."
