My idea of a great afternoon.

Ever wander through a junkyard? I have...often.

There's a therapeutic effect to exploring crashed cars that have been picked over for usable parts. Not much interests me more than examining intake manifolds and wiring looms for design techniques.

That brings me to today's blog.

I'm building a hybrid of sorts.

Nope, it won't be powered by batteries or nitrogen. It'll be a BMW 3 or 5 series powered by a turbocharged Gen Four 5.3 V-8 mated to a 6-speed transmission.

How's THAT for bizarre?

Believe it or not, it's been been a lot. On the latest episode of Gas Monkey Garage, lead mechanic Aaron Kaufman is building a similar contraption. Although his will be used mostly for racing purposes, mine will be designed for street use.

It makes sense. The BMW was born with an independent rear suspension, big brakes, lots of airbags and many more cool features, all with a low curb weight.

The plan is for 700 horsepower, cold a/c and an integrated roll cage.

I'll keep you updated!
