North Korea is giving approval on a plan to attack the U.S.

The state news agency says the orders include the possibility of using "cutting edge" nuclear weapons.

It comes after the nation warned there could be a pre-emptive strike months ago.

Tensions have been growing on both sides in a war of words.  Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said today verbal threats would be taken very seriously.

The U.S. has approved a move to send a high-tech ballistic missile defense system to Guam.

The Pentagon calls it a precautionary measure to strengthen regional defenses.

Military officials called for an end to the threats and to choose a path to peace.
