CLEARWATER, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Two people are dead after a man called 911 saying he stabbed his mom in unincorporated Clearwater and then advanced toward a deputy when authorities responded to the scene, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say it happened around 12:15 p.m. Friday at a home on the 2900 block of Pine Cone Circle.
According to sheriff’s officials, the communication center received a call from a man calling from the home saying he had stabbed his mother and killed her.
When authorities arrived, PCSO says a deputy approached the front of the home, knocked at the door and announced himself as a sheriff's deputy. Deputies say that’s when they suddenly heard yelling and screaming coming from within the home and the suspect came down the stairs, made his way out the door and continued to advance toward the deputy with something in his hand.
PCSO says the deputy repeatedly ordered him to stop, but the he continued advancing towards him and the deputy fired several shots. The suspect died on scene, according to PCSO.
Sheriff’s officials say the body of a female was discovered inside the home and it appears the woman was stabbed. Deputies say a butcher knife was located next to the body.
No deputies were injured, according to PCSO.
