TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - "Are my kids coming in later?" Julie Schenecker asks detectives hours after she was taken into custody for the murders of her two children.

The recording was released to the media Tuesday, though defense attorneys are trying to prevent it from being played in court during Schenecker's trial, which is supposed to begin April 28th.

Schenecker is charged with killing 16-year-old daughter Calyx and 13-year-old son Beau because they were "mouthy".

Defense attorneys maintain that the 53-year-old suffers from severe bi-polar disorder and was taking a cocktail of medications and drinking alcohol at the time of the murders.  Prosecutors  are not seeking the death penalty.
