CLEARWATER, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Clearwater Police say four people were arrested in connection with gunfire that erupted Monday night at the beach. Authorities say officers also recovered multiple firearms.
Two people were shot, police say, and one fled the scene while the other was taken to a local Tampa Bay hospital.
Clearwater Police say there were three different shooting incidents. At one point, police said they were questioning as many as eight people.
Police say the first shooting started on the road outside the Hyatt Clearwater Beach. It appeared to be disagreements between different people, police say, and not random where the general public would be in danger.
Police also say one group was in the temporary parking lot just north of Second Street and some others were near the corner of Coronado and Second Street when a fight broke out and someone discharged a firearm.
Shortly thereafter, police say someone shot from a floor of the Hyatt Parking garage down to the temporary parking lot north of the Hyatt. A third scene developed a little while later at 351 South Gulfview Boulevard, police say.
Police say access to the beach is now back open and they are now going by local businesses and making sure all is clear.
