TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Democratic Florida Senator Bill Nelson, who is the senior member of the senate armed services committee, is going to Ukraine this week.
He says he'll meet with U.S. and Ukrainian military leaders as tensions increase with Russia.
Nelson says he doesn't completely support President Obama's response to the situation.
“He, thus far, has not been willing to give arms - in other words lethal aid. I support giving arms to the government of Ukraine in order to help them protect themselves from the big Russian bear,” Nelson said.
Nelson will also visit Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
