CLEARWATER, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The Clearwater Police Department and the city's Solid Waste Department are teaming up to offer Clearwater residents a chance to shred personal paperwork.

The May 17 event at Westfield Countryside Mall is designed to cut down on the risk of identity theft for Clearwater citizens. Instead of putting their important documents in the trash or storing them at home, residents can bring them to the mall where they will be shredded on site by Proshred.

The event will run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the northeast parking lot of the mall, nearest L.A. Fitness. The entrance for the line will be off southbound Countryside Boulevard south of State Road 580.

The service is for Clearwater residents who have just a small number of boxes, not for businesses who are wanting to purge their records.
